First day of work!
And it went well! We worked 10 hours today, roguing paddocks for South Pacific Seeds. Today we learned a few things. Firstly, roguing is not just weeding, there are many weeds in the field amongst the crop that we don’t care about and just leave there. In each paddock, the things that have to be removed are the “off-types,” plants that don’t have the desirable qualities that the customer wants...

“Kick it in the guts! Give it the jandel!”
– Marty Wood, my boss at Mt Hutt, telling me to punch the throttle on the snowmobile (a jandel is a flip flop in New Zealand. That’s short for “Japanese sandal.”)

“That’s my kind of mountain biking: all downhill.”
– Melanie Rakete, after going mountain biking and then watching an extreme mountain bike video.

What I've been up to lately...
Hey everybody, sorry I haven’t been able to post any news in a while, I haven’t been able to get to some working internet in a while.  Well, not a whole lot has been going on, anyway.  I went up the hill snowboarding two days last week, which was fun.  I was able to go up for free because I have an employment offer and am just waiting to start.  The snow was pretty good; it was a bit...

VISA VISA VISA!!! And, JOB, JOB, JOB!!!
My visa has arrived!  I am legal to live and work in New Zealand for two years, until June 2014.  I’m not sure what my next step will be after that, but I plan to look into it.  I let my boss from when I worked on the mountain two years ago know I had a visa and the next day (today) he phoned me to offer me a job.  I start on Wednesday, working in the lifts department on Mt. Hutt.

How you get ready to move across the planet...
Please, if someone out there has any suggestions, let me know…  Oh, wait, I guess since I will be moving across the planet I should already have this figured out.  But really I am just guessing and doing the best I  can.  One thing I can tell you though, is that checking extra bags at the airport is dang expensive.  So I have been working on sending some of my stuff to New Zealand via the...

New Zealand blog revived
Hello everyone!  As many of you know, and many do not know, in one short month I will be returning to New Zealand for another stay.  My plan is to immediately head back to Methven (it’s winter in NZ) to hang out at at Mt. Hutt, the same ski field where I spent a season working two years ago. As I’m sure you can imagine I’m pretty excited about heading back “down...
